Principal’s Report – Dr. Hedrick
- Thank You! – Thanks to PSO for the financial assistance with the snow day t-shirts (they were well received).
- Counselors – Beginning on registration for next year – Incoming parent night for rising 6th graders is Jan 22nd (to
include band fittings, stretch student info. and then general session). Elementary school visits are also
scheduled. LHS curriculum night for rising 8th graders will held on January 23rd.
- Rose Award – Nominations have started – everyone is encouraged to nominate someone (form can seem like a
lot, but everyone is recognized for being nominated, even if the extensive form is not completed). Teacher of
the year nominations will open soon.
- Million Bazillion Podcast – Road show for 60 schools on the topic of financial literacy in a game show format
and Rockwood Valley was selected as one of the schools. Assemblies (in 2 sessions) will take place on April 3rd.
- Eclipse – April 8th – Still working on plans and details for this
- Merlin Awards – There has been a lot of discussion, and the focus will be on individual teachers celebrating
individual student success. Recognition may include a “Merlin” note home.
- KORT Award – For 7th and 8th graders Thursday, March 7th, parents are welcome at the breakfast (6th graders
ceremony for new inductees will be held on Wednesday, March 6th at 7 pm).
- Dragon – Name the Dragon contest committee (Jen R. and Jess B. will work on)
- Calendar – Discussion and context of timing of school starting and ending, professional development days,
timing of winter, spring, and if adding fall break could be possible, etc.
- Wellness Day – Happening this Thursday on the early dismissal – staff is very excited and thanks PSO for the
support through grants. Students submitted an interest inventory (3 choices) for two one-hour sessions
including martial arts, yoga, floral arranging, leather tooling, crochet, reading, etc. (over 2 dozen session
choices). Teachers will assist, but also had a choice on which sessions to attend.
Treasurer’s Report – December activity reviewed (see Treasurer’s report). Motion made to change from First Bank to
First Community Bank to avoid monthly fees and to utilize free coin machine for coin drive – motion made by Laycie
Norris-Wagner, seconded by Devon Bussen, motion carried.
Vice President’s Reports:
School Community – April Ladner – Staff celebration for January will be hot cocoa and cider. Valentine gift card raffle
will take place in the week leading up to Valentine’s day. Conference dinners will be February 27th and 29th.
Communications – Jess Brown – Still need a replacement for Martha Cyzmmeck who will be rolling off the board at the
end of this year (there was some interest, but no replacement yet). New website for Rockwood – training is to be held
this month.
Fundraising – Devon Bussen – School Store – Volunteer slots are filling up after having some open spots the first few
days back from break (still some day sto fill). Dine to Donate – next one will be February (tentative on the 13th) at El
Maguey. Fun Food Friday – Cake pops did not go over well, and perhaps they could add more inventory (could also have
been timing). Students seem to like the fruity / sour type candies over chocolate. Next one is March 8th. FACS kits are
being sold as new semester starts.
School Events - Stephanie Stempf – Trivia Night – March 8th, chair will be Laura Lauer and there is a committee of
volunteers. Discussion of trivia night details followed and theme will be “Game Knight”. 6th Grade Fun & Field – will talk
to Carey Terranova about planning. Fun Run / Community Building Event – For incoming 6th graders and rising 7th and
8th graders, after spring break. Looking at an after school event tentatively Friday, April 12th.
Service Projects – Jenny Arbuszewski – Grant meeting will take place end of January or beginning of February. Megan
McClain will send a message out soon to PSO then it will go to the teachers once a date is selected. Everything went
well with the Adopt-a-Family and the wrap party. All 3 volunteer chairs will come back and Annie Miller will take over
coin drive. Next year will be Ann Kidd’s last year.
