PSO December 5, 2023 Meeting Minutes
Meeting at Rockwood Valley – 9:30 am - 11:30am

Introductions
Minutes
November draft meeting minutes reviewed – motion was made to approve minutes. The motion was seconded and
passed.
President’s Report – Jenifer Robertson
- Presidents Forum – Next meeting on Dec 13th at 9:30 am at Kehrs Mill Elementary – coffee with the
superintendent. Last months was held at Pond – May presidents forum meeting will be “team bonding” /
transition meeting. PTO will be able to use Parent Square and training will be held in January. Eclipse on April 8th
at approximately 12:42 pm, peaking at 2 pm. District will purchase glasses for students – and will share vendor
and PSO’s could possibly offer purchase to families.
Teacher Presentation – Mr. Mullen presented his book “Heads Up 9th Grader!”. Mr. Mullen shared his personal
experience as a student and years of teaching and shared copies of the latest edition of his book.
Principal’s Report – Dr. Hayes
- Turkey Smash – Big success! Coin drive was record breaking with over $10,000 raised. The Turkey Smash event
had great school spirit and lots of great energy at the assembly
- Cornerstone Award – Winner from RVMS was Lynn Gregory, Custodian Head
- Rose Award – Selection committee will meet school and is asking for volunteers – 2 required meetings – 1/31,
4:30 – 5:30 pm and 2/22, 5 – 9 pm at the Rockwood Administrative Annex
- Dignity and Belonging Cohort – Six or so members from Rockwood administrators / staff have been attending.
Current staff are participating in 12 days of spirit and students can try to guess the daily theme. Goal is staff
engagement. Now is great time to thank a teacher through a note or email, etc.
- Staff gifts – Priscilla Schandler along with Dr. Hedrick are requesting half of cost of t-shirts for teachers
(approximately $800). Discussion followed if PSO has funds in the budget – there is unbudgeted income of $500
that could possibly be used. Jen R. will follow up with Laycie to see if those funds are available to offset.
Counselor’s Report – Stacey Scott
- Career Fair - 8th graders signing up
- Enrollment & Course Selection – process is beginning for next year
- “Academic Plan” – New program to map out courses, and awaiting more information and training
- Adopt-a-Family – Lots of signups, but not a lot physically delivered yet (PSO will promote a reminder), still
looking for a company to clean out gutters or volunteer time.
- Rockwood “Giving Place” or “Rockwood’s Got your Backpack” – will make a $500 donation
Treasurer’s Report – November activity reviewed (see Treasurer’s report). Discussion about switching to First
Community Bank from First Bank to avoid fees and benefit of using coin machine.
Vice President’s Reports:
School Community – April Ladner – Student celebrations – Nov and Dec SOTM will be held on Dec 15th in the library or
commons (TBD). KORT after winter break. Merlin plan is still TBD. Teacher / staff appreciation – no activity in
December, but will start back up on January. Staff conference dinner – confirming dates for spring semester Feb. 27th
and Feb 29th. Will need to get some extra help with staff appreciation week (and we do not have a chair).
Communications – Jen Adams / Jess Brown – Need a replacement for Martha Cyzmmeck who will be rolling off the
board at the end of this year. Newsletters are going well. Please keep sending pictures of events to include in the
newsletter. Followers are upon Instagram – Turkey Smash and Coin Drive had great photos and activity. Website – new
site has some “kinks” to work out - still do not have capability for PSO’s to make changes, some functionality is not
working.
Fundraising – Devon Bussen – Panera was dine to donate (do not have results yet). School store – following up on
discussion on whether to open the school store on Mondays. Fun food Friday this week, and two next semester. Budget
is tracking on the income side. Could revisit opening school store on Mondays in the spring. Volunteers are in good
shape. Discussion communication of incoming 6th grader parent night for RVMS (to make sure Pond families also get the
communications).
School Events - Stephanie Stempf – Trivia Night still needs a chair
Service Projects – Jenny Arbuszewski – Coin drive recap, Adopt-a-Family – wrap party scheduled for Dec. 12th May need
help with larger gift card purchases (Jen R. to take debit card to get most).
