Introductions
Minutes
August 2023 draft meeting minutes reviewed – Motion was made to approve minutes. The motion was seconded and
passed.

President’s Report – President’s Forum meetings meeting is Sept. 13th at Eureka HS at 5 – 8:30pm
Principal’s Report –
- Thanks for all of the support for opening of the school year. Orientation and Open House went great and
thanks for the meals.
- Advisory Period has started on Wednesdays and Thursdays and includes a 10-15 “mini-lesson” (all students
receive the same) then 2-5 minutes for students to check assignments and dates in Canvas / Infinite
Campus. Remaining minutes are for students to work on some of the to-do list items. Timing is at the end of
the school day so students will have touched base with teachers and had all classes that day. Counselors will
also have input to the mini-lessons as needed. Next week Wednesday will still be Advisory, but going
forward Thursday will become AcLab. For RVMS, AcLab will be determined by teachers (rather than student
driven as in the high school). Teachers are currently working on coming up with these groups.

Counselor’s Report – Working on AcLab content (especially of 6th graders still getting used to the middle school routine
and possibly 7th and 8th graders to help as leaders/mentors). School supplies are good after using Walmart gift cards.
Beginning to identify families for Adopt-a-Family.

Treasurer’s Report – August activity reviewed (see Treasurer’s report). Motion to approve budget was made, seconded
and passed. Online parent budget vote was passed. School Improvement Fund transfer from PY transfer was also
approved (approximately $6k – see Treasurer report). Also discussed adding the finance accounting module onto
Membership Toolkit. Motion was made, seconded and passed.

Vice President’s Reports:
School Community – Julie Southwick / April Ladner – New family welcome Thursday, Sep. 14th at Gio’s (so far only 1
family RSVP). Student Celebration – SOM will be donuts and coffee (8 am after announcements, students and parents).
Fall conference dinner – Annie Miller is chairing – thinking pulled pork one night and potato bar the other. Conferences
are Oct 17th and 19th. April Ladner – 15 staff birthdays in August and September – they all received a “goody bag” of
some treats. 1st staff celebration coming up next week and all donations are filled except for soft pretzels. Discussion
followed about staff appreciation to make sure nurses, librarians, custodians, etc. are recognized (April and Dr. Hedrick
will discuss what is currently being done by other groups such as NJHS).
Communications – Jess Brown – Social media update on followers and best strategies for posting on Instagram /
Facebook. Try to specify to Jess when you request social media posts if you would like it to be a story or a post based
upon how those will be received by users.

Fundraising – Devon Bussen – First Dine-to-Donate MOD Pizza on Sep. 28th – MOD is adding a fundraiser on top of the
regular percentage – RVMS will get $1,000 if we are in the top 3 of fundraisers. School Store will open tomorrow, Sep.
13th. Volunteer positions are filled through the end of 2023. Inventory chair position still open. Jen and Devon will work
on adjusting pricing as necessary. Smoothie King will start coming on Mondays (but not yet rolled out yet due to some
staffing shortages in the food service group).

School Events - Stephanie Stempf – Glow Bash is sold out at 295 (Oct. 27th). Steph will review for duplicates. No
refunds will be offered, but a waitlist will be started. T-shirts no extras will be ordered. Photo booth added and digital
images will be provided. SRO has the date reserved. Committee will meet today and go over smaller details.

Service Projects – Jenny Arbuszewski – Have responded to volunteer requests (there is a waitlist for school store
volunteers). Extra helpers could be used for Fun Food Fridays (have 6 but will ask a few more). Follow up on timeline of
grants for date for submission and grant meeting dates. Also follow up on Mullen Dragon project (does need to be
treated with a fire suppression). Discussion followed on holding a fundraiser to “name the dragon” to be possibly held
in the spring so as to not compete with Turkey Smash.
